Reactions to the MoveOn Iraq Forum Pt.6: Dodd

I'm going to post a series of short diaries about the candidates' comments on MoveOn's Virtual Town Hall on Iraq.

I'm writing this fast as each of the candidates speak, with quick reactions to each one. I hope others feel free to use the comments space for their own reactions. As a disclaimer, I'm an Obama leaner, but I also tend to like Edwards and some of the others a lot.

Penultimate: Dodd

Chris Dodd comes out for Feingold-Reid, for withdrawing the bulk of our troops right away, and keeping some for training Iraqis in the Kurdish areas, defending some borders, etc.

Also talks about Afghanistan, which I think he is the first to do, so kudos, and energy independence, so double kudos.

Also solid answer to a question about oil rights - coming out in favor of the Iraqis deciding what to do with their own oil, and in favor of a Manhattan-project like push for independence from middle east oil. Well done.

He's clear and concise, and I like his positions. Too bad he's a boring candidate, with less than no chance of winning the election.  But he's got my vote for Senator from Connecticut - I hope he represents that state for the next 20 years, and about 15 years longer than the other guy.

Anybody care to add their thoughts?

I didn't get to hear him speak, but I have heard Dodd in NH in small group settings. By which I mean, I've listened to CSPAN podcasts of Dodd in a NH living room. In any case, he was quite engaging in that setting, a lot better than Richardson.

Also, Dodd will retire from the Senate after this term, unless he wins the presidency - in which case he will be done in 2008.

I don't know that he's retiring. That rumor started only because he moved the funds from his Senate re-election committee to his Presidential, but why wouldn't he? I think he drops out after NH, and ends up running for re-election.
